We gave it a shot. It found us a copy of the Great Gatsby for $3 used or $9 new (shipping included). It didn't return results for our olive oil or a pack of computer paper. Judging from the items on its partner sites, it should do fine for home items and electronics.

You can also opt to receive the prices by text message. Conceivably, you might be able to show these to the store and ask them to price match on the spot.
