This year, that title will belong to Saturday, December 23rd. This Friday, November 24th, will most likely rank as the sixth busiest shopping day.

Furthermore, so-called "Cyber Monday," may be a media myth. Last year, the Monday after Black Friday only ranked 9th in sales. — BEN POPKEN

Well, as a person who has had the frightening ordeal of being a retail employee on Black Friday (and is thankful for his change of vocations) I can tell you this is unsurprising (well, that and I read a Snopes.com article on this years ago).

While 7am-Noon are absolutely scary, by 3pm the store would be an absolute ghost town. The reason why Black Friday has such a reputation is because it's so compressed. People run into the store en masse, while the weekend days before Christmas have the foot traffic spread out over an entire day.

I had always heard that the weekend before Christmas has been busier than Black Friday for a few years now. The question is do they base that on shoppers in the store, or money spent? I'm siding on the money spent angle because Friday seems busier, at least the places I go.

Cyber Monday is indeed made up/a myth, that's why no one ever heard of it before last year. It was made up by some retailers association looking to capitalize on leftover giddiness of Black Friday shoppers.
