Being that I work for a Telecom out of Michigan, we DO NOT sell call records for $150 nor does any other telecom that I'm aware of. If they are, it is a crime punishable by federal law. For any telecom to disclose ANY customer call records, local officials MUST provide a signed and sealed warrant, or homeland security or other federal officials MUST provide a federally mandated, approved and sealed request.

Lets keep in mind that 99.9% of the time the info being requested will consist of calls being placed overseas. This is usually related to foreign born nationals who are already being investigated in the first place. There has never been a time when the authorities have asked \"give us all call records for all of your users calling Iraq\". They always submit their inquiries with a name and phone number they are looking for, which is almost always placing calls to the middle east. Never once have I personally seen any requests that seemed out of the ordinary, in being here for 4 years. Furthermore, these call records will simply be sheets faxed to the authorities containing the ANI (the # calling from), the # they are calling, duration of call, exact route and country code + npa + nxx combination.

Contrary to popular belief, they aren't tapping the phones, they aren't re-routing phone traffic to their facilities and its not like govt agents are sitting in a \"secret room\" in each telecom monitoring calls. Its call records people. It's meaningless information, unless youre cheating on your wife, or planning to blow up the world trade center.\"
